Are 3D films the future of cinema? With ultra thin 3D TV’s hitting the market and epic movies like Avatar it would seem the consensus would be yes. But with 3D movies like Clash of the Titans it slows down the bandwagon and creates little hick-ups for potential 3D fans. The bottom line is that when done correctly 3D effects can add tremendous value to the viewing experience leaving the audience wanting more. They key is preparation and equipment. Shooting 3D its not as simple as mounting two cameras side by side with a red filter over the left camera and cyan filter over the right. It requires learning new vocabulary and researching new equipment. Don’t rush the production to meet current 3D trends; put in the leg work and shooting 3D will be one giant step over competitors.
